Cruising
Cyberspace
Web
Site Pick Of The Month
By Pam Wegmann
With a click of a
mouse button last month, the East Jefferson Business Association entered
the world of the Internet and the beginning stages of e-commerce by establishing
a home in cyberspace. If you haven’t already been there, go to
www.ejba.org
The site is clean
and visually appealing. The graphics are consistently carried out
on each page in color and style with EJBA’s historical look so that brand
identity can continue to be built. The site’s also easy to navigate
and intuitive with links back to the home page on every sub-page.
There’s also a feature many sites lack: physical, telephone and e-mail
contact information on each and every page.
On the Home page,
the navigation bar is front and center. The same list also
appears on the sub pages so its easy to move around the site and not get
lost. One of the user friendly features on the Home page appears
when a user places their cursor on any of the links. Text will pop
up in the bar to the left describing what the particular link is about.
The About link describes
the organization, its history and purpose. A series of short paragraphs
describing the many benefits of EJBA membership, such as Networking After
Hours, Commerce on Parade, and the monthly meetings can be found at the
Benefits and Services link.
The Committees link
describes opportunities for involvement and the News link will archive
current and past newsletter articles.
One of the most valuable
links is found by clicking on Calendar. Here you will find listed
every event the EJBA has scheduled through the rest of 2000. It gives
date, time and place so that 24 hours a day, you, and potential members,
can put future events. The calendar will continue to roll forward,
with 2001 dates to be added soon.
Prospective members
can e-mail a request for additional information by clicking on the Information
Request link or can join by clicking on the Membership Application link
and filling out the form.
Two links yet to
be completed are the Members Only Area and the Membership Directory.
The Members Only Area will eventually be a place where members can conduct
commerce with each other and online discussions, posts or chats can
be held.
One of the best features
of the site will be the Membership Directory. At this writing,
the EJBA is in its membership year transition, therefore the Membership
Directory will not available until September 1, 2000. When it does
launch, it will be an interactive version of the print directory.
It will be searchable by individual name, company name or by product or
service. One of its best features is that EJBA members whose
companies have Web sites will be able to purchase, for a very nominal fee,
a hot link so that their Web address will be active within the online Membership
Directory. If a viewer clicks on the member’s URL (address) they
will be taken from the online Directory listing directly to the member’s
Web site, thus increasing the member’s marketing reach.
As time passes, more
features will be added to the site, increasing benefits for EJBA members.
Bookmark ejba.org and visit often.
