Cruising
Cyberspace
Web
Site Pick Of The Month
By Pam Wegmann
Last year a business
associate referred us to a new business publication called Business 2.0.
It’s a magazine that was launched in August of 1998 and dedicated to the
recognition that the Internet has created a new economy with new
rules. Its articles and ads are targeted toward the leadership of
companies who need to know how to succeed in the world of business on the
Internet. The online version of Business 2.0 can be found at
http://www.business2.com
The mission of this
site and its paper companion is to demystify the constantly and rapidly
changing landscape of e-business and provide practical, in-depth info.
The Home page gives you four basic departments that work to fulfill this
mission: Channels, Insights, Research, and Community.
Channels is
divided into four other categories which provides articles onwhat companies
are doing right and wrong in e-commerce, how the Internet is changing markets,
advertising and brand strategy, articles on investing in this new frontier,
and information on the technologies and changes that are the backbone
of the Internet and enable e-commerce.
Insights is the department
where the think tanks and gurus of the Net
e-conomy share their
opinions and observations on the trends affecting doing business on the
Net.
Clicking on the Research
button provides information on research conducted on the wide variety of
aspects of e-business.
Choose the Community
button and you will find newsletters, discussion groups, interactive
polls, forum threads, financial events, and a calendar of trade shows and
conferences.
The Magazine link
provides you with the current issue of Business 2.0 along with an archive
of past issues.
There is also a Search
capability on the front page which requires a two step process to execute
what you want, but does provide more advanced search capabilities for more
narrowly focusing your search for the types of articles you want.
The site is visually
smooth and well designed. Of course, advertising exists on this site
but we found that the ads were less invasive in quantity and nature, and
also seemed to blend with the style of the online magazine instead of clashing
as is the case with most other sites.
This is a must read
storehouse of information. Whether you read the online version of
Business 2.0, or the paper version with its heavy “thud” factor, it will
challenge you to think in new terms. As well, it will help you determine
if your company is “getting it” or “just doesn’t get it” in which case
it may be an endangered species. This is truly a case where
Knowledge is Power!
